I thought I learned to handle bad beats.
I had soo many - that I have developed my defense mechanism - and most of the time after the initial shock - I quickly "dust it off" - it is just "part of playing poker"
This one got to me more.. again.. is there ever a time when you don't get too upset abut a bad beat?
Here is the story:
$3 tourney - very very early 2nd or third hand of the tourney.
I am on the button and get 66.
A guy in early position bets 120 - gut feel - intact chip stack - I feel a set coming - I'll take the risk and call.
Flop: Q 4 6 rainbow
yepee got my set - I congratulate myself for taking the risk.
and I think - he might have a QQ - in which case I'm toast - but I will take a chance and slow play this.
So he bets I call - and so we keep going till we are all in.
Turn 7, river 5
he turns the cards and has A8 suited!
No flush draw - no pair - no nothing! that is til the river - which gave him a str8!
see the pic and the description below.
It is tue I should not have slow played - this is same lesson for the 1000's time - but even then - this is terrible.

This isn't a bad beat.
A bad beat is two players putting in the chips with good cards, and a lesser hand over-taking the bigger hand. You can only congratulate yourself when you have gotten your opponent to come into the pot with the worst hand. After that it is the poker gods that decide what happens.
Zink17 didn't have a hand.
Your example above falls into the category of, "what-sort-of-toilet-did-you-crawl-out-of-you-brainless-underbelly-just-short-of-the-private-equipment-sucky-so-sucky-numskull-twit-twot-tw*t-a$$hole-beat."
Keep getting your chips in with cards like these. _________________

JJ , i do feel for you, you were unlucky but when he pushed allin for 950 on the river thats when your experiance should have told u he had a poxy 8 and had chased so u fold and wait for hand to push with for a dubble up.
Slow playing a set ( i dont agree with RAMSTER about you being greedy) but it is danger in its self not to re-raise at least one time if you think he is on QQ, its very hard to figure out were you are in a hand if you just flat call when u have a feeling about a players hand.
At the flop the moron was waiting to see if an A hits the turn and then still waiting and got online luck , so fold your godd hand and stay alive beause we know we have the beating of these moronic chasers at some piont.
You win tounys or at least place by wining lots of small pots take it early and take loads of them. _________________ Knowhen2

they kept betting and all JJ did was keep calling hoping for them to commit more chips
As you state with JJ's experience she should know better than just keep calling this looks like a trap that went horriblly wrong therefore being greedy
If she thought they were playing QQ why keep calling not knowing where you are also your behind all the way so why call the river if thats what you think you're up against
Didnt it occur to you maybe 88 was a viable hand here also at the river |

I agree she was tryng to trap, i just don't think it needs to be called Greedy, its poker, more offten than not her play would have worked all be it unorthodox or played not the best way but compounded by a suckout chase.
And no 88 never would have entered my head.
Buy then i would have bet at the guy. _________________ Knowhen2
